This Saturday sees the 2022 All-Ireland Men's Senior Softball Doubles Final in Castlebridge as local favourites Gavin Buggy & Galen Riordan (Wexford) bid to dethrone the reigning champions Brian Carroll & Gary McConnell (Meath).
The Meath men have won the last two editions of this Championship (2019 & 2020), with Brian having also won in 2017 & 2018 with Tom Sheridan, with a sensational total of 9 Softball Doubles titles to his name already. With McConnell reaching this years Softball Singles decider, and the pair also winning this years 4-Wall Doubles title, it is clear to see why they enter this final as strong favourites.
But the vocal home support should really stand to Buggy & Riordan in a court they are very familiar with. Buggy has proven to be one of the top Softball Singles players in the country this past few years, and has previously featured in one Doubles decider before, back in 2006 with Barry Goff. Saturday will be Galen's first Senior decider but he has rose through the ranks with two U21 Softball Singles titles (2015 & 2016) and an Intermediate Doubles title in 2018.
