South Limerick Primary Schools Handball 2022

Handball returned to the Cumann na mBunscol calendar in 2022 after the Covid 19 pandemic interrupted indoor sport. John the Baptist Community School has provided a top class venue for the South Limerick Handball blitz in years past and the school welcomed the South’s handballers once again on December 8th.

Thirty-four players from six schools were in action on the day and some fantastic games were played on the One Wall courts at the Hospital venue. Knocklong NS, Kilmallock NS, Hospital NS, Herbertstown NS, Kilfinane NS and Galbally NS were represented with boys and girls competing for South medals.

Following a girls’ competition where thirteen girls participated, the Roinn A gold, silver and bronze medals went to Scoil Mocheallog in Kilmallock. In Roinn B, Galbally took the gold, Herbertstown NS took silver and the bronze went to Knocklong NS.

A similar set of results were recorded in the Roinn A boys’ division – gold, silver and bronze for the talented Kilmallock contingent. In the Roinn B, Galbally NS once again claimed gold while Herbertstown NS picked up silver and bronze. Congratulations to all the participants who showed the high standard of handball in the South Limerick division.

The event was facilitated by the South Limerick Primary Schools Board and it was the fourth staging of the competition. Important support was provided by Darragh Daly from Handball Ireland and also from Johnny Penny of Limerick Handball. On the day, Limerick GDAs Gary McCarthy and Seán McCarthy ensured the smooth running of the competitions.
