The action starts in earnest in the Myclubshop.ie 60x30 Doubles Championships, with six games down for decision at five venues throughout the county this weekend.
In the Mens Senior Doubles quarter finals top seeds and last year’s winners Eoin Kennedy and Carl Brown of Dublin will take on the strong Roscommon pairing of Rikki O’Gara and Damian Martin in Crinkle with a 1pm start time. The Roscommon pairing had a three game tussle with Seamus & Padraig Carroll of Limerick in the last round and will hope that outing will stand to them tomorrow. This is followed by the meeting of Mayo heavy weights and number 3 seeds Joe McCann and Dessie Keegan, they play the experience Tipperary pairing of Ger Coonan and David Moloney who accounted for Kilkenny’s Brian Manogue and Eddie Burke in the round of 16.
Also on Saturday at the famous Hospital club in Limerick at 2pm the FIVE times winners namely Brian Carroll and Tom Sheridan of Meath enter the fray. They play Kerry’s Dominick Lynch and John Joe Quirke after they defeated Vinny Moran and Campbell Brennan of Mayo.
The final game in the quarter finals is being played on Sunday morning with the action moving to Talbots Inch at 12noon with last week’s singles champion Robbie McCarthy of Westmeath being partner by his Dad Robbie Senior. This is an interesting tie against Wexford’s Gavin Buggy and the young Minor Daniel Kavanagh who is deputising for the injured Tommy Hynes.
In the Ladies Doubles the action is down to the semi-final stage this weekend with the games kicking off in Cashel on Saturday at 12 noon. In this first semi-final our latest Ladies Senior Singles winner Martina McMahon of Limerick is partner by last year’s U16 Doubles winner Katie McCarthy, they play the Kilkenny pairing of Ciara Mahon and Mary Phelan.
The final game of the weekend takes place in Tuamgraney, Co. Clare on Sunday evening at 6pm with current and THREE times champions Catriona Casey and Aisling O’Keefe of Cork hot favourites to defeat Roscommon’s Siobhán and Fiona Tully.
So six fantastic games are in store as the battle continues to be crown this year's All Ireland Doubles champions. Every player this weekend will be hoping that they can experience the Croke Park finals buzz that occurred last Saturday. Let the battles commence!
