She’s Ace Festival again proves a hit

Come Sunday morning at a She's Ace Festival Weekend, there is always a lot of sore bodies making their way to the 1-Wall Courts.

A hectic Saturday in the 4-Wall court sees many players play 3-4 competitive matches, but that never deters the players coming in their droves to Sunday's Fun Day.

Team Event:

The Team Event is the main event, with players from U13 through to Elite Ladies join forces in a Team of 4 Format, playing as two Doubles pairings. Many new friends are made as a result, and with a typically more relaxed feel about the Sunday's events, it often brings the best out of the players. Or maybe it is the background disco music playing that makes the players play well!

After coming through 4 Knockout Rounds, it was Team Conway (Clare Conway, Sinead Moriarity, Karla Corcoran, Aoibheann Slean) who just about done enough to hold off a late surge from Team McCrory (Eilise McCrory, Roisin McAllister, Lucy McCullagh, Katie Marley) to win 33-28.

Beginners Challenge:

An important part of the She's Ace Weekend is ensuring a platform is available for beginners to get involved in the game. This weekend we had eight players take up that opportunity; 3 from Kerry, 3 from Belfast, and 2 from Tyrone. The long trek up proved fruitful for Aoife Walsh from the Spa/Killarney HC in Kerry, as she very impressively defeated Emma O'Neill (Tyrone) in the Final.

Mother & Daughter Doubles:

A very special part of the weekend is always the Mother & Daughter Doubles grade. This unique event always gathers interest from players and spectators alike, and this year the title made it's way to Carlow as Collette & Farragh Ryan (Garryhill) defeated Evelyn & Maggie Quirke (Glenbeigh) in a brilliant final 15-12.

11&U:

The 11&U's again got lots of action by playing their Go Games Format, before attending a Coaching Clinic with National Development Officer Darragh Daly.

World Champion on site:

Current World Handball Champion Martina McMahon made the long trip up from Limerick and was warmly received by the younger players who got the opportunity for photos, autographs and tips from a superstar of global Handball.

Thank You:

Again, GAA Handball would like to thank Breacach HC for the use of their superb new three court 1-Wall complex, and for their hospitality.
