By Philip O'Connor

St Brigid’s H.C held their annual doubles tournament on Sunday last in St Brigid’s H.C, Curraghboy, Co Roscommon.

This tournament provides players with an opportunity to gain some extra competitive games before the Championship season kicks off. The games began at 10:30am on Sunday morning in Curraghboy and teams from Roscommon, Galway, Mayo, Offaly, Cork, Westmeath and Clare entered. The Plate games were played in St Coman's in Roscommon town with both finals taking place in Curraghboy before a packed audience.

Seamus Conneely and Conor Noone (Moycullen H.C) teamed up to win this year’s Doubles tournament and in doing so took home the Pake Doyle Cup. They defeated Pat Murphy (Claremorris H.C) and David Walsh (Mallow HC) in a fantastic final 31-23.

Vinny Moran and Campbell Brennan Ballaghadereen HC took the honours in the Plate competition defeating Westmeath pair of Neil McDermott and Darren Carter. The Mayo pairings experiences was the difference in the end and they held out to win 25 – 17.

Timothy Doyle the Chairman of St Brigid’s H.C presented the trophies. Great credit must go to Timothy, Seamus McHugh and his wife Teresa who once again ran an excellent tournament and also provided an endless supply of refreshments for the players and supporters throughout the day.
