Charly Shanks & Catriona Casey's Irish 40x20 Nationals wins last weekend in Belfast not only saw they go home with a national title and a nice piece of crystal, it also saw them both become the new Men's & Ladies Official Irish #1 Ranked Players for the first time.
Becoming #1 is no easy feat as the rankings are based over a two year period, but both players consistency has now been rewarded by ending the season top of the pile.
In the men's Rankings, Shanks overtook Robbie McCarthy, with the Mullingar man missing out on valuable points by missing last weekends event. Beaten finalist Martin Mulkerrins has also cemented his place comfortably as #3, with a 20 point lead over next placed Killian Carroll in 4th.
In the Ladies, Casey can be happy with her recent months work, as the current All-Ireland & Irish Nationals champ finally overhauling Aisling Reilly to top spot. Having defeated Ciana Ni Churraoin in the 3rd place playoff last weekend, Martina McMahon maintains her #3 ranking over the Galway teenager.
