
Munster claimed their 4th consecutive Girls 40x20 Interprovincial Team of Ten in Kingscourt on Saturday. In the semi-final Munster overcame Leinster 87-70 while in the final they accounted for Ulster on the scoreline 95-68.
Pride, passion, skill and intense competition were all in abundance in Kingscourt HC, Cavan on Saturday 7th May, as over 40 young girls from across the country proudly represented their Provinces at the Girl 40x20 Interprovincial Team of 10 event.
This event hugely entertaining and competitive saw five doubles pairings, aged between 13 & 17 compete on aggregate scoring, with many of the young girls competing at national level for the first time.
The first semi-final between Connacht and Ulster appeared difficult to call and after the first three matches there was only a few ace’s between the teams but the Ulster girls stepped up to the mark and won the last two games and took the match 88-55.
The second semi-final saw last year’s winners Munster take on a strong Leinster side. The Leinster girls were clearly up for the challenge but so too were Munster and in the end the girls from Munster were just too strong and they took the match 87-70.
In the 3rd/4th place playoff Leinster just proved too strong for Connacht and they won this match on a scoreline of 94-68.
The final proved to be very competitive match, Munster went into an early lead after the first game. Ulster fought back in the second game but Munster proved too strong in the next two games which meant they retained the Girls Interprovincial 40x20 title for the fourth year in a row. In the end the experience Munster girls won out on a scoreline 95-68 to win the event.
