Munster Girls Claim 60x30 Team of Six

Munster claimed the inaugural Girls 60x30 Interprovincial Team of Six in Cashel on Saturday. In the final Munster overcame Leinster after a very tight contest that went down to the very last game before they won on the scoreline 70-67.

Pride, passion, skill and intense competition were all in abundance in Cashel on Saturday 22nd October the girls from Munster and Leinster proudly represented their Provinces at the inaugural Girl 60x30 Interprovincial Team of 6 event.

This event hugely entertaining and competitive saw three doubles pairings, aged between 13 & 17 compete on aggregate scoring, with many of the young girls competing at national level for the first time.

Both provinces were missing some high profile players but their replacements stepped up to the mark in dramatic fashion. First game was Amy McKeogh and Aine Spain, Tipperary against Sontae Jackson Windgap and April Moran Ballymitty with the Tipp girls winning 15-10, 15-11. Next to play were Coolgreaneys Cliodhna O’Connell and Leanne Boland versus Ashling Shanahan and Keri Murphy both Broadford, Limerick with the Wexford girls winning both games 15-5 to leave Leinster in the lead by 11 points.

In the last match Kildare’s Mollie Dagg teamed up with Lauren Flanagan Coolgreaney against Katie McCarthy Broadford and Sile Spain Lahorna in a hard hitting match. Munster took the first game 15-5 to just leave 1 ace between both teams. The final match was a real ding dust game with both sides giving it their all but in the end the Munster girls got the vital points to win the second game and match 15-11 and so take the overall title by just 3 point to give the girls from the south the win on a final score of 70-67.
