Mallow Handball Club has held its first ever Open One Wall Tournament. Approximately 500 people came from every county in Ireland to attend the Mallow Open One Wall Tournament. During the weekend,the tournament attracted 160 competitors who played across thirteen grades in two venues. The tournament was sponsored by Masterlink Logistics and EDTL Handball (USA).
The Patrician Academy Mallow hosted the adult grades as well as all the female competitions and the larger boys tournaments were held in Davis College Mallow. As these games were timed games, people came and went from the tournament venues and went out and explored Mallow town. Some went for lunch in the Gallery Bar & Restaurant, others went for a swim at Mallow Swimming Pool and some went to the Cinema, we know this because a handball was found at one the screens!
The tournament attached some of the top players from around the country, which resulted in some thrilling games. Conor McElduff won the Men’s Open Final defeating Killian Carroll and Catriona Casey (Ballydesmond) who the Women’s Open Final defeated Niamh Coleman from Craigavon, Armagh.
The tournament was well organised and approximately 400 games were played across two venues on five courts over two days, all which were run on time. This level of organisation is a credit to the individual members who gave of their time for the entire weekend. Juvenile members took on roles as referees and lines-men while the older members looked after the administration desks and catering etc. To all that helped out over the weekend – thank you (a lot).
