Leinster 40x20 Mens Senior Singles Championship

Last weekend saw the Leinster 40x20 Mens Senior Singles championship played to conclusion with Robbie McCarthy retaining the title.

The quarter final action began on Friday night with the mouth-watering clash of Brian Carroll and Gavin Buggy. The opening game was a very tense affair that could have went either way but in the end Buggy took it by the slimmest of margins 21-20. The second game was a lot more conformable for Buggy and he took it and the match 21-10.

In the other quarter finals Robbie McCarthy and Michael Gregan were both given walkovers by their respective opponents while the final quarter final match saw Patrick Funchion coming through after Eoin Kennedy had to retire injured during the match.

In the semi-finals on Saturday McCarthy overcame Patrick Funchion on a score-line of 21-8, 21-12 while Michael Gregan received a walkover from Gavin Buggy.

The final was played in Coolboy on Sunday afternoon with McCarthy taking the first 21-6. It is great to see Gregan back playing after a injury prone spell over the past couple of years. In the second game Gregan put it up to McCarthy at times before Robbie pulled away to take the second and the Leinster title on a score-line 21-6 & 21-16.

McCarthy is now through to the All Ireland Quarter Finals while Gregan is into the Last 12.
