Large increase in entries as Clare hosts She’s Ace

All roads lead to Co Clare this weekend for the annual She's Ace festival, a celebration of female handball which showcases juvenile, elite and recreational players from around the country.

In keeping with the trend, there has been a surge in entry numbers, with 243 players taking to the court this weekend, which is up from 150 entries last year.

Alongside the usual action, among the other highlights will be the Mothers & Others and Mother & Daughter grades, which are sure to prove great fun.

The Ladies Open, which will be staged at Tuamgraney and Clooney-Quin, has attracted a field of 13 entries, headed by senior stars Martina McMahon, Fiona Tully, Niamh Heffernan and Mollie Dagg.

There is a particularly large entry of 13&U players, with seven three-person groups and rally scoring ensuring lots of games for all players.

Among the courts being utilised is Shannon, which has recently re-opened, providing a terrific boost for the sport in the area.
