Kells are Softball Club Kingpins once again

Kells HC, Meath have captured the GAA Handball All Ireland Softball Senior Club title for an incredible EIGHT time in as many seasons when they defeated Ballina, Tipperary in a close contest. Ballina led by 3 aces’ going into the final match 50-47 before the 2018 Softball Doubles winner Brian Carroll sealed the match to secure the title for the THIRTEEN time in total for the Meath club 77-56 at Crinkle on Saturday.

In the first singles match Gerard Coonan played Gary McConnell. The first game was very tight with little between both players, but Coonan just edged it 15-14. In the second game the Tipperary player was always in control and won it 15-6 for the Ballina club to lead by 10 aces going into the Doubles.

In the doubles match Tom Sheridan and Robert Fox defeated the Ballina pairing of Noel Moroney and Declan Gleeson over the two game on a score-line of 12-15, 15-5 so to reduce the Ballina club lead to 3 aces’ 50-47.

In the final singles match Brian Carroll played David Hickey, Carroll put in a stellar performance and won both games 15-0 & 15-6 to claim the title for Kells again on a 77-56 score-line.

The Junior title was won by the Ballymore Eustace club Kildare as they overcame Moycullen of Galway 73-35. 

Finally, in the Junior B competition Williamstown (Galway) defeated Virginia (Cavan) in the first semi-final while Friary/Abbeyside (Waterford) overcame Ballymitty (Wexford) 62-36 in the second semi-final. In the final the Munster champions Friary/Abbeyside were conformable winners against Galway on a 60-27 score-line.
