One of the busiest weekends of action in the softball calendar serves off this evening, with All-Ireland semi-finals and finals down for decision in most adult singles grades.
Matches will take place in Crinkle, Fahy Cross, Ballina, Mullingar, St Coman’s, Abbeylara, Na Fianna, Talbot’s Inch and Tuamgraney as players from around the country vie for national honours in the ‘big alley’.
The Minor Singles final sees 40x20 champion Fiachra Ó Dhúill (Armagh) meet Kilkenny’s Noah Manogue in Mullingar on Sunday. This should be an interesting clash of styles and sees two very accomplished young players face off in what has the potential to be an outstanding contest.
The Men’s Intermediate Singles will be hotly contested as usual and features what should be two cracking semi-finals. Tyrone’s Ryan Mullan, a two-time finalist, meets Limerick’s Shane Murphy in what has the makings of a cracker, with the talented Galway man Diarmuid Mulkerrins meeting Kilkenny’s Kyle Jordan, who recently had a great run in the Irish Nationals.
In the Junior Singles, with the famous Dunlop Shield at stake, the last four standing are Paul Donnelly (Tyrone) who meets last year’s runner-up Anthony Fitzgerald (Waterford), Galway’s Conor Noone (who has played in the last two 40x20 JD finals) and 2023 Junior B champion Shane Birney of Wexford.
