On Saturday last GAA Handball hosted its first ever Club Forum. The theme of the day was "Growing Together" and a full and informative selection of speakers were lined up.
We were delighted to have over 35 clubs represented on the day and from the feedback we have received so far, each club has gained knowledge and are keen for more of these types of forums to be held.
The day started off with a presentation from Amy Coll (GAA Insurance Executive) on Insurance & Players Injury Fund, next up was Kathy Slattery (GAA Head of National Finance) & Aisling Greenan (National Finance Coordinator) who delivered on Vesting for Clubs & The National Club Draw. Then we had Gearóid Ó Maoilmhichíl (GAA National Children’s Officer/ Child Welfare & Safeguarding Manager) & Michelle Harte (Child Welfare & Safeguarding Officer) who gave a very informative talk on Child Welfare & Safeguarding. Austin McKenna (GAA Handball`s Fixtures & Event Officer) delivered on area`s of GDPR and Club Registration.
After lunch Pauric Dowdall (National Club Support Officer) & Darragh Daly (National Development Officer) brought clubs up to speed on two new initiatives being launched which were Club Iontach & The Referees Pathway. Then we had Oliver Keating (GAA National Officer Development Committee) deliver an excellent presentation on Volunteer Recruitment & Retention.
Our final speaker of the Day was Simon Scriver from changefundraising.com who spoke about Funding & Fundraising for Clubs. The day finished up with a Q&A panel with three clubs from around the country who were delighted to share ideas they have used successfully in their own club and they also spoke about challenges they faced and told about how they overcame these challenges. To finish the day National Manager John Kelly gave an update and a sneak preview of the new National Handball Centre due to open in the coming months.
We would like to say a big thank you to all who contributed to our first ever Club Forum and we are planning to make this an annual event on the annual Clár.
