Doubles Last 16 Round Up

The 2019 O'Neills 4-Wall All Ireland Doubles championships kicked off last weekend with five ties down for decision.

2015 champions Meath's Brian Carroll and Tom Sheridan received a scare when they were pushed to a third game by Mayo duo Vinnie Moran and Ian McLoughlin, the Meathmen took the first 21-17 before the men from the West hit back taking the second game 21-15, however Meath found their rhythm once more and took the decisive third game on a comprehensive 21-4 scoreline to book their place in the last 8.

There they will face Kerry's Dominic Lynch and Jack O'Shea who had a relatively straight forward win over the Conway brothers from Galway, Pat and Ollie winning out on a 21-1, 21-11 scoreline to book their place in the Quarter Finals.

Galway's Mulkerrins brothers will face Kilkenny's Funchion brothers in their quarter final after they received a walkover from Tyrone's Shane O'Neill and Conor McElduff due to injury while also through on a walkover was Cork's Brendan Fleming and Tony Healy who received a walkover from Wicklow's Michael Gregan and Johnny Willoughby. They will face number 1 seeds and reigning champions Clare's Diarmaid Nash and Colin Crehan in the quarters.

Cork's Daniel Relihan and Michael Hedigan produced a fine performance to see off the challenge of Wexford's Gavin Buggy and Galen Riordan following a straightforward 21-7, 21-4 win in the Last 16 and the Cork men will quietly fancy their chances when they meet Dublin's Eoin Kennedy and Carl Browne in the quarter finals.
