Comórtas Aon-Bhalla UCD 2020

Bhí an Chomórtas Aon-Bhalla UCD, urraithe ag Gaeltacht UCD, ar siúl don naoiú mbliain i mbliana ar an 7 Márta; tús breá láidir le Seachtain na Gaeilge UCD! Bhí an Ghaeilge labhartha agus an liathróid láimhe beo bríomhar i Halla Spóirt UCD ar an Satharn beag seo caite don ócáid bhliaintiúil seo.

The 9th annual UCD One Wall Competition, sponsored by Gaeltacht UCD, took place on March 7th, creating a lively start to Seachtain na Gaeilge. There was plenty of Irish to be heard and handball to be seen in Hall A of the UCD Sports Centre last Saturday as over 70 players, male and female, old and young, beginner and expert took to the courts.

I mbliana, ghlac 70 imreoir páirt ó sé chontae dhéag sa chomórtas agus bhí trí ghrád á imirt ar an lá: A,B & C. Bhí pláta i ngach grád ionas go bhfaighfidh gach imreoir 2 chluiche ar a laghad. Bhí gach uile sórt d’imreoirí ann ar an lá, idir óg agus aosta, idir saineolaithe agus tosaitheoirí ó gach cearn den tír! Bhí scoth na himreoirí ag tacú agus ag imirt linn sa chomórtas A i mbliana.

This year, there were players from 16 different counties and there were 3 grades played – A, B & C. The A grade was played in a group format initially with the top team in each group through to the cup final and the second team in each group through to the plate final. There was a plate in both the B and C divisions also to ensure all teams got at least 2 games.

Mar shampla, tá James Prentice & Terry McElvaney sa chéad 20 imreoir san Eoraip, de réir an liosta rangú is deireannaí.

There was a very high standard in the A division this time round. For example, James Prentice & Terry McElvaney are both in the top 20 Male One-Wall players in Europe as per latest rankings.

Bhuaigh James Prentice agus Paul Donnelly an Corn A in aghaidh Terry McElvaney agus Conor O’Gorman. 19-15 an scór a bhí ann ar deireadh thiar thall.

James Prentice & Paul Donnelly, from Tipperary & Tyrone respectively, took home the A title on a scoreline of 19-15 against UCD Alumni Terry McElvaney & his partner Conor O’Gorman.

A Cup Winners: Paul Donnelly & James Prentice with Thomas Craddock from UCD GAA Handball in the middle.

Bhí an bua ag Eamon McCrory & Anthony O’Sullivan sa phláta A in aghaidh athair agus mac, Glen & Jake O’Kelly. Tá Anthony & Eamon le feiceáil thíos le captaen an chlub Aoife Quinn ó Sligeach.

Winners A Plate: Anthony O’Sullivan & Eamon McCrory with UCD GAA Handball Captain Aoife Quinn (centre).

Thug Billy Caddell agus Conor Keeley taispeántas don slua in aghaidh fir Maigh Cuillinn Jake Fahy agus Liam Davoren sa chraobh chomórtas B. Bhí taithí Billy le feiceáil sa chraobh ach táimid cinnte go mbeidh an bheirt buachaill óg ar ais gan mhoill chun an lámh in uachtar a fháil.

Conor Keeley and Billy Caddell put on a display of handball for the crowd against the Moycullen men of Jake Fahy and Liam Davoren in the final of the B Cup. Billy’s experience shined through on the day; however, we are sure the two young men will have the upper hand before long. They are pictured below with club captain Aoife Quinn (centre).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               B Cup: Conor Keeley & Billy Caddell (left) with Aoife Quinn (centre) and Jake Fahy & Liam Davoren (right)

Mar is gnáth, bhailigh Cumann Liathróid Láimhe airgead ar an lá do charthanacht agus i mbliana, an charthanacht a bhí pioctha ag an gcumann ná Pieta House. Cuireann an comórtas seo an Ghaeilge chun cinn i slí phraiticiúil, bheo, spraoiúil. Gabhaimid buíochas leis na hurraitheoirí uilig a chabhraigh linn an chomórtas seo a chur ar súil: Centra UCD, The Taphouse, Tolteca Raghnallach, GAA Handball, Jump Juice Bars, AIB, CLG UCD agus Gaeltacht UCD ach go háirithe.
