Clogh Handball Club hosted a very successful Softball (60x30) Gold Watch Handball Tournament last Saturday in aid of Aiséirí/Aislinn youth treatment centre Ballyragget, Kilkenny.
The action began at 10am with 18 players, 9 Senior and 9 Intermediate players playing in two groups with the winners of each group advancing to the final. After a super day of Softball action Robbie McCarthy / Billy O’Neill and Gavin Buggy / Brendan Burke advanced to the final.
Gavin and Brendan got off to a great start, leading the no 1 pairing 7-1. But the McCarthy/O’Neill combination battled back to level at 8-8 stroke for stroke McCarthy/O.Neill inched in to the lead 9-8. It stayed this way for nearly 4 minutes with long rallies, hinder balls and cover balls eventually with 50 seconds left McCarthy/O;Neill got two very valuable aces to close out a great final 11-8.
Well done to Clogh Handball Club who hosted a great day of softball action for a very worthy cause.
