40x20 Interclub 2016 Report

The 2016 GAA Handball season came to a close today Saturday 3rd December with the40x20 Interclub All Ireland Championships. In the Open grade Kells (Kilkenny) took the premier title for the second year in a row when they defeated Breacach (Tyrone) in the final on a 97-70 scoreline.

The Open competition was played in Cullohill and in the first semi-final Breacach had a good win over St. Coman’s 105-56, in the second semi-final Kells overcame Mallow 84-35. The final was also a very tight match with little between the teams but the experience of Kells showed through in the end and they took this title for the fourth time on a score line 97-70.

The Junior competition was played at Leixlip and Ballymore Eustace. Moycullen defeated St. Galls 84-40 while Cashel overcame Tinryland in the other semi-final. The final was very exciting with the minimum of margins between both teams at the end with just 1 ace separating both teams after 6 games. In the end Cashel just edged the final by defeating Moycullen 94-93 in a terrific final.

Finally, in the Junior B competition which was played in Curraghboy, Roscommon. The first semi-final was very tight and the result could have went either way but in the end Williamstown edged Breacach. In the second semi-final Boherbue (Cork) accounted for St. Brigid’s (Dublin). The final was also very tight with little between the teams after the first two matches but the court got wet at this stage after the long days play. The final match was played in St. Coman’s and Boherbue finished the stronger with them defeating Williamstown.
