There were some great tight games of Handball played at the 40x20 2nd level colleges championships that was played yesterday in Bawn, Corduff and Kells courts. The Senior Winners were as follows. Kilkenny’s Jack Holden representing Greenan College, Thomastown when he captured the Boys Senior Singles title while Kildare’s Mollie Dagg, Colaiste Chiarain, Leixlip took home the Girls Senior Singles title. What’s remarkable was that both players also won the 60x30 2nd level colleges titles back last October.
Titles went to the four corners of the country as the cream of the crop came to the top. No one school dominated the titles with TEN different schools taking one title a piece. It was a very good day for Kilkenny handball as they took home three titles, Clare followed with two, while Galway, Kildare, Mayo, Meath and Monaghan schools follow with one each.
The 40x20 season has begun in earnest now with the first All Ireland’s decided. Some of these players will meet again through the season for more titanic tussles on the court.
