2018 40x20 Juvenile Team of 6/4 Championship Report

The 2018 40x20 Juvenile Team of 6/4 competitions took place last Saturday in Cork and Waterford venues. In total seven different counties took part with Cork, Kilkenny and Waterford counties taking home the gold medals.

In the U12/13 competition Cork overcame Cavan in the first semi-final 90-20 while Kilkenny got the better of Galway in the second 62-20. The final was a very tight and exciting match with little between both teams with the result in the balance right up to near the end. At the finish the home Cork team finished the stronger and defeated the excellent Kilkenny team 76-65. No doubt we will see these players many times in the future, displaying their high level of handball skills that was on display last Saturday.

In the U14/15 competition Kilkenny had a comfortable win over Galway in the first semi-final 90-48 while Cork received a bye to the final. In the final the Kilkenny team just edged their Cork opponents on a score-line 77-72.

Finally in the U16/17 competition Wexford had a very tight 2 ace win over Galway in the first semi-final 54-52 while Waterford accounted for Down by winning 51-29. In the final the local Waterford team proved too strong and took the honours when they defeated Wexford 52-34.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches, parents and a special word of thanks to the Conna, Dungarvan and Mallow club’s for their hosting and hospitality on the day.
