Walsh & Casey win 60x30 Nationals

Kilkenny's Ducksy Walsh & Cork's Catriona Casey are the 2016 Irish 60x30 Nationals Champions after two high quality finals in Talbot's Inch HC, Kilkenny at the weekend.

Walsh is the big success story of the weekend as the 50 year defeated hot favourite Eoin Kennedy (Dublin) in the final, whilst Casey, favourite herself, was pushed in an entertaining encounter against Kerry's Ashley Prendiville.

Men's Open Final:

Ducksy Walsh dft Eoin Kennedy 15-9, 15-11

Ducksy took a tense first game after scores were tied at 3, 5 & 9. Neither man really found their range until the latter stages when Ducksy reeled off 6 consecutive points to close out the first.

A storming run of 11 consecutive points saw Ducksy carry his momentum into the second as he led 11-0. Eoin changed to a straight lob and fought back back to 11-10 before the tide swung yet again as Walsh sealed the title 15-11.

An incredible achievement considering he is 50 years of age!

Ladies Open Final:

Catriona Casey dft Ashley Prendiville 15-11, 15-5

In the first game it was Ashley who started brightest and held leads of 6-4 & 10-8 as she found joy with her right corner kills. Casey fought back with her overhand lob serve her key point scoring weapon, forcing Ashley deep into the right corner.

Prendiville did respond well in the second and took an 4-0 lead, but Casey's serve again caused trouble once she got going, winning her either aces or setting her up to control the rally. The score line did not do the game justice with some great rallies, but Casey took the title 15-5.

An excellent final to cap off a very high standard of Ladies Open 60x30.
