Wall-Ball Nationals - 6 to Watch - Ladies Open

We take a look at the top 6 seeds in this weekends Irish Wall-Ball Nationals Ladies Open grade, which kicks off on Saturday.

  • Martina McMahon (Limerick)

The reigning champion, and two time winner enters as a hot favourite. She has featured in three of the last four Finals and is a spectators dream given her attacking style of play and long range kills. She opens her campaign with a QF at 5.30pm on Saturday.

  • Ciara Mahon (Kilkenny)

Mahon made last years SF, falling only to Down's Lorraine Havern who is the most decorated ladies player in Irish Wall-Ball Nationals history (4 titles). She has consistently made the QF & SF stages in recent years, and being one of the more experienced players in this years field, she will be confident of reaching her maiden final.

  • Fiona Tully (Roscommon)

The St Coman's club woman is still relatively new in the Open ranks, but in her short time in the elite ranks she has shown plenty of promise. A technically excellent player, and 17&U champion from two years ago, Tully certainly has the tools to trouble anyone in this weekends field.

  • Megan McCann (Armagh)

Last years 17&U champion will be featuring in her first Ladies Open campaign. A very aggressive and attacking player who knows how to play the One-Wall code well having won juvenile titles at 13&U, 15&U and 17&U.

  • Niamh Dunne (Laois)

In her 3rd Ladies Open campaign at Breaffy, Dunne will bid to reach her maiden SF. She has shown real progression in recent years and always shows real heart on the court. She will be hoping her greater experience at senior level will stand to her on the big stage against teenager Megan McCann in the QF.

  • Pauline Gallagher (Mayo)

A seasoned campaigner on the One-Wall circuit, Gallagher will know her power and volleying will cause any of this weekends competitors trouble. Since her SF appearance in 2014 she has been dogged with injuries, but will be eager to reach her second final (first in 2010) this time round, starting with a QF against Kildare's Ellen O'Connor.
