GAA Handball's National Tutor Darragh Ruane was in Vienna last weekend as interest and growth of the game of Handball spreads across Europe.
The Vienna Gaels GAA Club were the host Club for the weekend, and having built two indoor One-Wall courts, they undertook host duties for the 3rd Annual European Wallball Championships. These Championships were developed for GAA Clubs on the continent with the assistance of the European GAA Board, and this year saw teams from Italy, Austria & Slovakia compete.
Tutor Ruane was invited out to deliver Coaching & Refereeing Workshops, whilst also lending a hand with Tournament Management tips. It is fantastic to see the vision and passion for development these International Clubs have for our sport.
There were some closely contested games through-out the team based tournament but in the end, Nizza Monferato (Italy) won both the Men’s and Ladies events, beating both Vienna Gaels and Vienna Valkyrie respectively.
