She’s Ace Ladies Open Preview

Ten of Ireland's finest female Handballers take to the court in Aughagower this Friday 20th & Saturday 21st January in the opening Ranking Event of 2017, the She's Ace Ladies Weekend.

Catriona Casey will again be the player to beat, as the Ballydesmond woman bids to take her third straight title. Hot on her heels however will be Martina McMahon & Ciana Ni Churraoin, as the nationally ranked #3 & #4 respectively bid to defeat Casey in the 40x20 court for the maiden time.

The format for this weekends action takes a novel approach, aimed at provided much more Handball for all players, and for providing a tournament platform for younger players to make the transition into the Open ranks. Players will compete in two groups of 5, in single games to 25 points. A win gains you 2pts, whilst a losing bonus point is on offer for players who make at least 15pts.

With ranking points for every individual placing, the top placed player in both groups will face off for the title, with every other placing also facing their counterpart in a playoff for 3rd, 5th, 7th, & 9th.

Last year saw Tyrone teenager progress to the final, whilst Roscommon's Minor star Fiona Tully also showed real promise in a competitive showing.

Action gets underway from 5.30pm on Friday, and resuming again at 10am on Saturday morning, with 25 Ladies Open games in total scheduled. A Finals Night will bring a climax to the 40x20 aspect of the She's Ace Weekend, with the Girls 15&U, 17&U & Ladies Open Finals comprising an exciting card, which starts at 7pm in Aughagower HC on Saturday evening.

Entry is free on both days, and spectators are encouraged to come along and watch our elite ladies play.
