Bhí an ghrian san spéir chun fáilte mór do na himeoirí laithróid láimhe d’Aon Bhalla Inis Mór ar an 13ú-15ú Bealtaine 2016. Tháinig slua mór ar an mbád tráthnóna Dé hAoine ag súil go mór leis an comórtas. Le cluichí iontach ar súil ó maidin go dtí tráthnóna ar an Sathrain. Bhí neart craic agus spraoi i rith an lae. Bhí seans ag na cuairteoirí freisin le ‘cúpla focail’ a labhairt agus aithne a chuir ar na h-Oileainí. Bíonn C.L.L Inis Mór ag súil go mór don comórtas Aon Bhalla gach bliain.
‘One Wall On the Rock’ took place on the 13th-15th of May 2016. With competitors travelling from all parts of Ireland to Inis Mór, Aran Islands. With the sun shining and high spirits the tournament kicked off at 9am in the three venues Saturday morning with non-stop games from Under 10 to Masters.
At 3pm the crowds gathered in the Páirc Spraoi to watch the Men’s and Women’s Open competition, welcoming new players to the Open Grade. It was a great opportunity for the young handballer’s to experience the high standard of the One Wall game.
The Women’s Open showed a challenge in the ‘Round Robin’ stage for the top two spots in the Final. Top scores Lorraine Havern and newcomer Eimear Ni Bhiadha proceeded to the final. A fantastic display by both players Havern’s experience lead her to a 28-8 victory. Havern winning the 6th Annual ‘One Wall On the Rock’ title for the first time.
Moycullen’s Martin Mulkerrins proceeded to the final against last year finalist Paudi Quish. Both having reached the final in previous years they were anxious to win out their first ‘One Wall on the Rock’ title. The spectators were spoilt in a fantastic game of handball with both players showing no signs of inexperience with an excellent performance. Mulkerrins overcame Quish with an impressive 26-13 win.
Every year CLL Inis Mór looks forward to hosting their annual tournament, as it allows their young club members the chance to experience handball at home being played at high standards and making new friends in the handball community. The tournament is a unique experience for all players to have the opportunity to play handball on an offshore island.
‘One Wall on the Rock’ will return next year in 2017 for the 7th Annual Competition.
