McMahon claims maiden US Tour title

"I'm going to treasure this win for a while!"

Martina McMahon creates a bit of history tonight, winning her first title on the US Tour at the World Players of Handball Stop #2 in Tucson, Arizona.

Martina faced the Tour's #1 ranked player Catriona Casey in the final, and having led 14-10 in the opener she let that lead slip and lost 16-14 (win by two aces rule).

Casey went 6-0 in the second and it looked as if she would close out the game quickly. But the very opposite happened as Martina stormed to a 14-16, 15-10, 15-3 win.

It reverses a defeat at the Golden a Gloves in Belfast two weeks ago, and sets it up nicely for a possible end of year showdown at the Irish Nationals in Mayo in two weeks time.

Meanwhile in the mens Open category, Killian Carroll continued his dominance of World Handball with victory in Tucson, defeating Robbie McCarthy 15-8, 15-1 in the final.

The Cork native, who now resides in Boston, played some awesome handball to take down McCarthy, admitting afterwards the win meant a lot to him taking down one of Ireland's elite, given McCarthy doesn't get the opportunity to compete on the US Tour that often.

McCarthy will dust himself down and be a favourite heading into the Irish Nationals in Mayo in a fortnights time.
