Mayo's Joe McCann came through a marathon third game match with Tipperary's Ger Coonan in the standout tie of the round during last weekends MyClubShop.ie All-Ireland Softball Singles Last 16 ties.
Having overcome a large deficit in the opener, McCann nearly closed the match out in two games, but Coonan snatched the second 21-19 to force the tiebreak. But instead of gaining the momentum, it was the Ballaghaderreen man who dominated to close out 21-9.
Elsewhere there were comfortable wins for Gary McConnell & David Hope against Kilkenny duo Ciaran Neary & Brian Mahon respectively.
Next Saturday 17th August will see the QF action commence in both the Men's & Ladies grades. Fixtures & venues to be released later today.
