Kells are 60x30 Club Kingpins once again

Kells HC, Meath have captured the GAA Handball All Ireland 60x30 Senior Club title for an incredible seventh time in as many season when they defeated Hospital, Limerick in a very close contest. The scores were level 74 aces each after the first three matches before the 2017 Softball Doubles winners Brian Carroll and Tom Sheridan team up to convincingly win the tiebreak 15-1 to secure the title for the TWELVE time in total for the Meath club 89-75 at Crinkle today.

In the first singles match Brian Carroll played Paudi Quish over two games. Carroll took the first 15-11 but Quish took the second 15-12 for the Kells club to lead by 1 ace going into the Doubles.

In the doubles match Tom Sheridan and Robert Fox defeated the Hospital pair of JP O’Connor and Kerry Hennessy over two game on a score-line of 15-7, 15-12 to extend the Kells lead to 57-45.

In the final singles match Michael Sheridan played Mike O’Toole of Hospital. O’Toole put in a stellar performance and took the first 15-2 to put Hospital in the lead 60—59 going into the last game. The final game turned out to be a very tight with little between both players but O’Toole lead and only needed 1 more point to win the title but Sheridan finished strongly and won the final few very important points to take the game 15-14 and so level the match at 74-74.

This setup a Doubles tiebreak between Carroll and Sheridan against Paudi Quish and JP O’Connor but the Kells pair proved too strong and won 15-1 to take the title 89-75.

The Junior title was won by the Broadford club Limerick for a second year in a row as they overcame Kilfane (Kilkenny) 88-65 in a tight match. 

Finally in the Junior B competition, Tinryland (Carlow) defeated Kingscourt (Cavan) in the semi-final while Williamstown (Galway) received a bye. In the final the Carlow team overcame the Galway outfit on a scoreline 62-20.
