Golden Girls Tournament 2017

This December will see the return of the Golden Girls tournament in Broadford HC Co. Limerick. However, this initiative will now use a new format in a bid to attract more top female handball players to participate.

What was previously an underage tournament has now evolved into a tournament for every age. It is open to all female players from all over the country and promises a mixture of a competitiveness and fun.

The main aim of the tournament is to offer female athletes another competitive out-let.

The format is simple:

The top 4 ranked entrants will go straight through to the quarter finals, which will take place on 9 – 10th December in Broadford HC. All other entrants will play off in singles event on December 2nd until only 4 athletes remain. It is intended to run off the singles in a group format to guarantee at least 2 games per player.

The top 4 from the tournament will then go on to pair up with the 4 automatic quarter finalists and play off in a doubles event the following weekend.

The doubles event will take place alongside the annual Men’s Doubles Bill Duggan Memorial Tournament, giving female handball players a chance to shine bright with their male counterparts.

A weekend of top handball is guaranteed, and, as an added bonus, the tournament is able to offer both Female & Male champions hotel B&B vouchers from either the Woodlands House Hotel in Adare Co. Limerick or Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar Co. Mayo.

The Breaffy voucher should prove a very appealing incentive to anyone planning on going to the annual She’s Ace tournament in January. However, not to be outdone, the Woodlands Hotel in Adare is exceptionally luxurious and their staff have been very supportive to the Broadford Handball Club, and indeed, Handball in general throughout the years.
