There were no major shocks following the Last 16 action in the O'Neills Mens 40x20 Senior Doubles Championships last weekend with the top two seeds advancing to the quarter finals.
Last years champions and number one seeds Dublin's Eoin Kennedy and Carl Browne had a relatively straightforward win over Cork's Tadhg Carroll and Ryan Harkin. The first game was a close affair with the Dublin pairing closing out a 21-15 win but the second was a much more straightforward win taking the victory 21-5 and advancing to the last 8 where they will meet the Funchion brothers Patrick and Peter who received a bye from Antrim in the Last 16.
Number 2 seeds and ten time champions Cavan's Paul Brady and Michael Finnegan also advanced in two straight games as they accounted for Wexford's Gavin Buggy and Daniel Kavanagh on a 21-8, 21-16 scoreline. They will now face Galway's martin and Diarmuid Mulkerrins in the last 8 as the Moycullen brothers overcame the challenge of Wicklow's Michael Gregan and Chris Doyle 21-13, 21-16 in Multyfarnham.
The promising Clare pairing of Diarmaid Nash and Colin Crehan defeated Kerry's Jack O'Shea and John Joe Quirke to book their spot in the Quarter Finals closing out a comfortable 21-9 win following a tight game in the first sneaking a 21-19 win. They will face last year's semi finalists Mayo's Joe McCann and Vinnie Moran who received a last 16 walkover from Tipperary.
The final Quarter Final will be an all Cork affair with Brendan Fleming and Tony Healy taking on Michael Hedigan and Daniel Relihan for a spot in the last four after Hedigan/Relihan received a bye from Meath in the previous round and Healy/Fleming accounted for Kilkenny's Ciaran Neary and Brendan Burke on a 21-12, 21-4 scoreline.
