The first round of the 1st Year Boys Leinster School’s One Wall Blitz regional heats took place on Tuesday 28th March 2017 in Mhuinebheag Secondary School, Co Carlow.
The school played host to the Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford heat, the day saw 11 teams participate from 6 different schools;
- Kilkenny City VS
- Borris VS
- Enniscorthy VS
- St Kierans College
- Mhuinebheag VS
After a long journey through group stages, the final battle had Kilkenny City Vocational School face off against St Kierans College (team 1). After an exciting final, KCVS proved too strong for the St Kierans side and will be looking to further their success in the Leinster final stage
.
Moving up the province, the Louth & Meath regional heat took place on Wednesday 29th March 2017 in Colaiste na hInse, Co Louth. This bout of heats saw 6 teams compete from 3 different schools;
- Colaiste na hInse
- St Marys Diocesan
- Scoil Ui Mhuiri
There were some tight games during the early stages of the day, however, St Mary’s proved to be the crème of the crop as both team 1 and 2 faced each other as adversaries in the final. The game had all thrills of a top-class handball game, even resulting in a tie breaker after a spirited comeback by St Marys team 1 in the second game. However, St Marys team 2 showed nerves of steel and came away with a convincing win in the end of the third game.
A huge congratulations is warranted to all who participated in both days – and a special thank you to Mhuinebeag VS and Colaiste na hInse for hosting the tournaments in their exceptional facilities. The future of handball is certainly a bright one.
The next dates of the 1st year boys Leinster Schools One Wall Blitz are as follows;
- Tuesday 4th April, 11am – South Dublin, Kildare & Wicklow (St Colmcille’s, Knocklyon)
- Thursday 6th April, 11am – North Dublin (St Brigids GAA Club)
