The final two 1st year Boys Leinster One Wall Blitz days took place on Tuesday 4th and Thursday 6th of April 2017, in St Colmcille’s (Knocklyon) and St Brigids GAA club respectively.
First up was the St Colmcille’s blitz which saw 5 schools enter 9 teams into the mix. The day was filled with all the usual highs and lows of handball but with the added twist of two teams from St Finian’s College (Mullingar) face each other in the final. The teams were evenly matched, resulting in the need for a third and final game (the winning pair from each team played). However, the first team proved too strong and came away with the victory in the end.
A great day was had by everyone involved and credit must be given to the wonderful venue and staff in St Colmcille’s (Knoclyon) and indeed, to all the participating school’s;
Greenhills College
Cabinteely Community School
Deansrath Community College
St Colmcille’s
St Finians College
The final Blitz day of the series ended with a thrilling game between Portmarnock Community School and St Mark’s Community School in St Brigid’s GAA Club. Though St Mark’s emerged victorious in the final game it was a unique blitz that saw three teams compete from both schools. The atmosphere throughout the hall was electric and supportive. The day had all levels of handballers compete, where complete novices held their own against more experienced players and saw a huge amount of respect and comradery shown between both schools, which is what handball, and indeed, sport is all about.
Thank you to St Brigid’s GAA club for hosting the event, and congratulations to St Mark’s Community School and Portmarnock Community School for your participation in a great day. Well done to all involved.
The Leinster final date will be announced shortly. If your school would like to know more about becoming involved in One Wall Blitz days, please contact one of our development team:
