Team Ireland Round Up on today's results.

Ó Dúill and McMahon advance on day three.

On an afternoon of shocks at the World Handball Championships, Men's Open favourite Tavo Ruiz crashed out, as did defending champion Nazir Marston.

For Team Ireland, there were mixed fortunes. Fíachra Ó Dúill advanced to the quarter-finals, but without striking a ball, as his opponent, Richard Montanez, showed up late and was disqualified. 

Ó Dúill will now meet the legendary Timbo Gonzalez in the quarter-final, after Gonzalez turned back English lefty Luke Thomson.

In the Women's Open Singles, Martina McMahon defeated Anastasia Spiridonov 15-10, 15-12, to move into the semi-finals, where she will be the only Irish player still standing, despite a battling performance by Ciana Ní Churraoin in defeat (15-5, 15-4) to Jenny Qu, whose amazing repertoire of shots wowed the crowd.

The Irish junior players are also in action. 19&U singles representative Laura Duff from Tyrone fell to a straight games loss to the excellent Eloise Clement from Belgium. Elsewhere there were wins for Kevin McGrath and Nina McBride (both 15&U).

Thomas Finn and Cian Dunning will be in action later today, although schedules are running behind. Other junior grades start tomorrow (Thursday).

Ó Dúill and Sean Kerr, who replaced the injured Mikey Kelly (sprained ankle) in the Men's Open Doubles, are in action later in their quarter-final, as are Martina McMahon and Aoife McCarthy.

The latter pair are the Team Ireland representatives; also in action will be Eilise McCrory and Ciana Ní Churraoin.

Matches are being played in very warm conditions at St. John's Recreational Center, which boasts 12 outdoor courts, and the iconic Coney Island, although humidity is mild. 

Some rain showers this morning (Wednesday) left schedules running late.
