Key Components of a GAA Handball Club Structure 

Club Executive Committee:  Responsible for managing club affairs, usually consisting of a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, PRO, and Children's Officer. 

Club AGM:  Held annually to elect officers and report on club activities. 

Affiliation:  Clubs must be registered with their County Board and GAA Handball on Foireann online registration system to compete in official tournaments. 

Club Operations 

Competitions:  Clubs organise local leagues, championships, and facilitate entry into county/provincial/national competitions. 

Safeguarding:  Clubs are responsible for ensuring all volunteers are vetted and trained in safeguarding measures 

Workshops: Hosting of workshops to ensure that members are up to date in governance, health and safety, coaching and other key areas. 

Forming a Handball Club 

One Club Model:  Handball clubs function within a broader GAA club, sharing facilities, resources, and governance with football/hurling/camogie teams to promote unity.  

Standalone Club Model: A club that is independently registered and directly affiliate with their County Committee, Provincial Council, and GAA Handball. They have their own committee and elect their own officers. 

Setting up a GAA Handball club involves establishing a formal committee, registering with GAA Handball, and ensuring proper insurance and safeguarding. 

Identify Members: A minimum of 10 full playing members is required to affiliate as a club. 

Establish a Committee: A new club must elect a chairperson, secretary and a treasurer. 

Register: Contact Foireann support to begin the process of forming your club and linking in with the local GAA Handball Provincial or County Board.  

Child Safeguarding: Appoint a Children's Officer and ensure all volunteers are Garda-vetted for working with children.
