Welcome to our GAA Handball Events section, your central resource for upcoming programmes, development initiatives, and stakeholder-led activities across the handball community.   

This space highlights key events delivered by clubs, county boards, provincial councils, and partner organisations, all aimed at promoting participation, enhancing skills, and supporting the continued growth of the sport.   

We invite players, volunteers, coaches, supporters, and beginners to explore what’s happening nationwide and engage with the events that best suit their interests and goals. 

She’s Ace

The She’s Ace Festival is a female handball weekend and is one of the highlights of the GAA Handball calendar. It is a nationwide initiative aimed at boosting participation and visibility for women and girls in handball, and is hosted twice annually, focusing on the 4-Wall and Wallball codes.

The event features fun and inclusive events such as the Mothers and Others doubles and the Ladies Challenger grade, creating a welcoming space for all ages and skill levels.

Women in Sport (WIS) Week  

Women in Sport Week is an annual Sport Ireland initiative which takes place in March. A week of celebration, promotions and enhancing the visibility of women's sport and women in sport at all levels. GAA clubs and communities are encouraged to get involved in the events and activities to help empower and support women and girls in GAA Handball.

Swellfest 

Swellfest is an annual family festival celebrating sport and wellness. Handball is a key feature of the community driven, inclusive event and we invite people of all ages and abilities to get involved.  The event takes place in Dublin with Dublin City Council and the NEIC.

BeActive Festival

The Sport Ireland BeActive Festival is run in conjunction with European Week of Sport which runs annually from 23-30 September.

European Week of Sport is all about inclusion, wellbeing, and the benefits of being active, with opportunities to try new sports and activities for all ages and abilities.

Active Schools Week


Active School Week (#ASW) is the biggest event of the Active School calendar and a favourite of many students, staff and families. All schools, primary, post primary and special schools are encouraged to participate. National Active School Week takes place April 27 – May 1, 2026, but if these dates don’t work for your school, you are free to organise your #ASW programme at a different time.

Future Leaders Month

Future Leaders Events Month encourages Transition Year students to organise and lead Gaelic Games events in their schools and local communities, developing leadership skills while increasing participation in sport.
