GAA Handball is delighted to officially launch Social Handball – A New Way to Play, a new participation programme designed to help clubs introduce more adults to Handball in a fun, active, social and inclusive environment.
Social Handball is a 6-week beginner-friendly programme, delivered once per week, with a focus on participation and enjoyment rather than performance. No previous Handball experience is required, and clubs can deliver the programme for Women’s, Men’s or Mixed groups, depending on the needs of their local community.
Why Social Handball could benefit your club
1. Attract New Participants
Provide an accessible entry point for adults who may never have played Handball before and introduce new people to your club.
2. Re-engage Former Players
Create an opportunity for former players or members who have stepped away from competitive Handball to become involved again in a more social environment.
3. Strengthen Your Club Community
Social Handball is about more than playing the game. It provides an opportunity for people to meet, connect and become part of the wider club community.
4. Flexible to Suit Your Club
The programme can be delivered as Women’s, Men’s or Mixed Social Handball, allowing clubs to develop an offering that best suits their facilities, membership and local community.
5. Simple, Beginner-Friendly Delivery
The six-week structure provides clubs with a clear and manageable starting point, with sessions designed to be enjoyable, accessible and suitable for different abilities.
6. Create a Pathway for Future Growth
Social Handball can help clubs build a new adult participation base, strengthen local engagement and create opportunities for participants to remain involved in Handball beyond the initial six weeks.
Clubs interested in hosting Social Handball can visit our Social Handball webpage for further programme information and complete the Club Expression of Interest Form.
COMPLETE THE PROGRAMME. BUILD FOR THE FUTURE.
Participating clubs that successfully complete the Social Handball Programme can apply for a Wallball / One-Wall Handball Grant of up to €1,000, providing an opportunity to further support the development of Handball within their club.
We would be delighted to work with clubs interested in bringing Social Handball to their members and wider community.
