The big result of Day 4 from the World Championships in Calgary was the victory in the 19&U One-Wall Singles for Tyrone's Johnny Woods over Team Ireland rep Darren Doherty. Doherty's performance never hit the heights of his play during last months Irish Nationals when he won his place on Team Ireland, but Woods was on form and was full value for his win with his powerful play proving decisive.
Down's Lorraine Havern put in a gutsy performance in the Ladies Open One-Wall Final, showing she can mix it with the best, but fell 21-14, 21-16 in an excellent final against top seeds Dannielle Daskalakis & Sandy Ng (USA).
Sunday is a rest day for the majority of Team Ireland, allowing some much need recuperation before the Four Wall Championships kick fully into swing on Monday, when Team Captain Robbie McCarthy & reigning World Champion Paul Brady play their opening games. Only Tiarnan Agnew (Boys 15&U) will have a match tomorrow in the opening round of his singles grade.
