Last Saturday in Moycullen the Leinster Girls did the double for 2017 as their team of 6 claimed the 60x30 Girls Team event to add to their 40x20 Girls Team of 10 that they won earlier in the year.
The format sees 3 doubles pairings (U13, U15, U17) compete in 1x21 ace game, with points scored on an aggregate basis. With Ulster not fielding a team this year, the remaining three provinces played in a round robin format.
The standard of girl’s handball has improved dramatically in the last 5-10 year, and this was evident on the day with some excellent performances and contests.
Leinster got the better of Connacht in the first match on a 87-38 score-line and in their second match Leinster defeated last year’s winners Munster 85-45. The final match of the day was very close with little between both teams but Munster just edged Connacht at the end 62-60 to finish off a wonderful day of girls handball.
