Glory for Leinster at Girls Interprovincials

Leinster preventing a 5 in a row of titles for Munster at last weekends #ShesAce Girls Interprovincial Team of 10 event in Kingscourt with a series of well deserved wins over the course of the day.

The format sees 5 doubles pairings (U13, U14, U15, U16, U17) compete in 1x21 ace game, with points scored on an aggregate basis. With Ulster not fielding a team this year, the remaining three provinces played in a round robin format.

The standard of girls handball has improved dramatically in the last 5-10 year, and this was evident on the day with some excellent performances and contests.

Having got the better of Connacht on a 85-61 scoreline, Leinster were then put firmly in the driving seat when Connacht held Munster to a thrilling 77-77 draw. Therefore going into the final round of fixtures, Leinster held a narrow 8 point lead over Munster.

Heading into the last fixture of the day, Leinster required a mere 4 points from the possible 21. That left an ominous task, albeit for a strong pairing for Clare's Caitriona Millane & Aoife Floyd, and although the sealed victory 21-16, Wexford's Cora Doyle & Eva Crean did more than enough to bring the title back to Leinster.
