GAA Handball want you to have your say!
Following on from the survey issued last year entitled “GAA Handball Building a Brighter Future” a number of topics came to the fore for discussion. One such topic was the GAA Handball Calendar or Clár with many feeling it needed revamping. At present we are in the process of designing a Strategic Plan to guide our Association through the next number of years and part of the plan will focus on the GAA Handball Clár going forward.
When surveyed over 60% of respondents felt that the Clár is in need of a revamp with only 28% feeling it is well balanced. Nearly 55% of respondents felt that too many All Ireland titles are on offer each year.
With that in mind we are inviting submissions from clubs and counties to provide suggestions on how to improve the current Clár. Submissions should be thought out and be well made suggestions as opposed to mini statements such as “less 40x20” or “more games for over 35s”. Please provide rationale to back up your suggestion as to how it will benefit the Sport of Handball going forward.
Please feel free to suggest any thoughts you may have as we want everybody to have a voice in relation to this and want everyone’s voice to be heard.
Some of the suggestions that have been received that may help get your thought process going are:
- Is there too many All Ireland titles and are they been devalued by having so many?
- Should the National Clár be providing so much National Events for B players should the Provinces/Counties be providing more instead?
- Are the Length of Seasons too long and should there be a variance between different codes
- Very little Opportunities for Club Tournaments.
- Need for Defined Seasons.
- Need for Off Season to allow club/referee/coach education and to prevent Player Burnout.
Submissions should be entitled “GAA Handball Clár Improvements” and should be submitted through your County or Club Secretary to info.handball@gaa.ie by 5pm on Wednesday 13th September. Please include the name and email address of all contributors to enable us to contact you if any areas need clarification or for further discussion. Please note Facebook or other Social Media submissions will not be entertained.
This is your chance to contribute to the future of your sport.
Thank you in advance for taking the time and effort to respond.
