Catriona Casey tore up the script and has claimed her 5th All-Ireland Ladies Softball Singles Title, and gained revenge on last year’s Final defeat to rival Martina McMahon.
The win is by no means a surprise, as Casey’s sheer efficiency proved too much for McMahon, who’s game was littered with hand errors. A very comfortable 21-9 first game win for Casey continued suit as she cruised to a 19-11 lead, albeit with McMahon taking an injury timeout midway through the second game.
But from nowhere McMahon found a groove and stormed back to 19-19 to leave Casey shell shocked. But she recouped and forced a side out at 19-19 before sealing the win with two quick points 21-19.
