Brady wins WPH R48Pro #3

Paul Brady has started 2015 the way he finished 2014 with another WPH Pro Stop tour win across the Atlantic. The Cavan man defeated Sean Lenning in the final to win the WPH R48Pro #3 in Houston last weekend to record his third win in a row on the tour. Brady was the top seed and was always in control without dropping a game on the way to the final. In his opening match he defeated Luis Cordova 15-3, 15-6 and he followed this up by cruising to victory against Daniel Cordova 15-6, 15-5.

In the semi final Brady faced Emmett Peixoto, Brady was nearly perfect in game one, cruising to win it 15-5. Peixoto battled in game two, taking a 6-4 lead and staying within striking distance throughout the game. Peixoto trailed 11-10 before two Brady kill shots extended his lead to 13-10. Peixoto continued to press the action, serving at 13-14 to force a tie-break. Peixoto’s normally reliable reverse-hop serve to the left came up short and a weak second serve yielded a Brady side out. Brady clinched the match and a spot in the final by taking the game and match 15-5, 15-13.

Brady was very comfortable in the final against Lenning, quickly seizing a 10-2 first game lead. Brady moved effortlessly around the court to clinch the first game in just 12 minutes, 15-5. Game two was no different with Brady in control from the start, he lead 8-3 and scored the final nine points of the match to wrap up his third consecutive Race title and seventh overall Race title, 15-7, 15-5. “I am always motivated to play well and I’m doing it for myself now,” revealed Brady while collecting his WPH crystal. “I am looking forward to San Francisco and I really want to win the Player’s Championship.” Stephen Cooney qualified when he defeated Adam Berliner in the preliminary round. Cooney then faced Mando Ortiz in the round of 16, Ortiz started slowly against the Mayo player when he dropped the opening game 15-12. Ortiz completely dominated game two in just eight minutes, forcing a third game, 15-2. Ortiz took his momentum into the tiebreaker, eliminating the Cooney, 12-15, 15-2, 15-7.
